Rural Scugog addressing catches people out, and the consultant works this territory often enough to know it. Give us the civic number and the nearest crossroad when you book, plus anything useful — which side of the road, what the outbuilding looks like. He calls before he leaves north Oshawa. On install day the truck driver gets the same notes, so nobody is circling concession roads with a slab on board and the day starts on time.
Do you install in winter, with the roads out here?
We work year-round. Quartz does not care about the weather once it is inside, and the drive from Pickering is on paved regional roads for all but the last stretch. What we ask is that the approach is cleared enough for a truck and two installers carrying stone — a ploughed turnaround makes a real difference. If a storm is forecast we will call and move the date rather than risk damaging your pieces.
Who actually cuts the stone — do you subcontract it?
It is cut and polished in our own plant in Pickering, on our machines, by our people. That is the reason templating to installation can run as little as one to five days: no waiting for a subcontractor's schedule, and if something needs adjusting we do it ourselves the same day. The Pickering plant and a showroom in Milton are our only two locations — we have no depot in Scugog and do not pretend otherwise.
What moves the price up or down on a job like ours?
Area first, then material. A colour from one of the entry ranges and a colour from Dekton or a premium Caesarstone are different money for identical square footage. After that it is the details: how many cutouts, whether the edge is a simple eased profile or a mitred build-up, waterfall ends, a splash that runs to the upper cabinets, and whether we are taking the old tops away.
